In 2014, during the last semester of my BSc studies, I prepared my dissertation at Kludi GmbH & Co. KG in Hungary. The topic was the design of a single-lever kitchen faucet and the development of the tools needed to manufacture the faucet body. The former included market research, brainstorming and the full development of the concept deemed best, as well as the marketing strategy required for market introduction.
During designing the faucet, I was looking for motifs based on simplified, elementary shapes. The tree branches found in nature and their junctions and nodes were the basic forms, which I then abstracted and reduced to the composition and connection of cylinders of different diameters.
Due to the asymmetrical arrangement, the arm and cartridge element for adjusting the water temperature and flow rate are located on the right side. The spout can be rotated freely 360 degrees.
The special feature of the kitchen tap is that by replacing an insert inside and turning the entire tap 180 degrees, the standard right-handed design can be transformed into a version that is more comfortable for left-handed users. There are two types of this component (a right-handed version and a left-handed version), but they have the same function: they connect the water mains connection holes of the faucet body to the cartridge.
